The Zachman Framework for Hair Colour

May 24, 2009

I’ve established this website to offer my services in Enterprise Architecture and other geeky technicalities.  But according to the site statistics, a lot of people are coming here to learn about blue streak in hair.  So, in a brief departure from the usual professional matters, I will endeavour to answer everyone’s questions about the blue streak in my hair.  The Zachman Framework’s columns might just help:

What (column 1): 4 - 0619cr bangs icon

How (column 2):  Every few months I get my bangs bleached and dyed with the Elumen professional colour products.  Unlike other blue dyes, it does not fade, so long as the fixative has been applied.

Where (column 3):  My bangs have blue highlights.  The rest of my hair is its natural dark brown (and grey).

Who (column 4):  My stylist is Maritza at Melange Creations in Toronto’s east end.  I’ve been to various other colourists and have also dyed my own hair with Manic Panic (which fades in 2 weeks, but is easy to apply.)

When (column 5):   I started colouring my hair in 2000, and have experimented with red, orange, blonde, green, blue and purple, usually as highlights.  Since I switched to consulting, I’ve been sticking to the blue bangs.

Why (column 6):  The funky coloured hair reflects the creative and radical side of my personality, and keeps the conservative side in check.  I get lots of compliments on the colour, and when it’s not coloured, my supposedly-staid government colleagues complain!

Surreal moment: On September 11, 2001, I gave a presentation about Common Data Elements, while the towers were coming down.  A conference attendee came up to me later, saying “I didn’t expect someone with pink and purple hair to be competent, but you proved me wrong.”
